What's fast becoming a trend these days is going against it. It seems like everybody strives for uniqueness amidst the insipid uniformity around. Take Allan Ball's American Beauty, it defied the usual formula most filmmakers are stuck into. This time, he took the idea on mainstream TV a step further, making it darker, quirkier and more unpredictable. It was a hit again on both the critics and viewers from the promising premiere in 2001 to the haunting finale in 2005.

The plot isn't really original in fact it has been rehashed by a dozen soap operas since god knows when. It is about... (more)

Nope, this is not a review on the latest album of Tata Young, this is more serious than the popstar's provocative music video that's going way outside the Thai moral crucible, this is something that involves our Health, Safety, Security and Environment (if i were to borrow my present company's ideology towards quality service). I am talking about "An Inconvenient Truth", the latest documentary film of the then U.S. Vice President Albert Gore. I bet most of you upon hearing it the first time will dismiss this as a by-product of a loser's chagrin from the famed Florida vote in the 2000 U.S.... (more)

Let me warn the guys out there who haven't seen this flick not to bring a date when you watch it, no, no...take it from me cuz when the movie started with a silhouette of a chick dancing on Linkin and Jay-Z's collab, my date blurted a loud, crisp, sarcastic "right!". I just realized then that it was way out of the "movie date" category bounds, my advice? just leave those honeyz at home or outside the movie house and be a big chauvinistic-couch potato-beer drinking pig cuz you're in for a wild testosterone packed ride (I'm such an ass). It's more of a pre-booze binge movie with the guys... (more)

mischief

There's more to like on this flick than what meets the eye. I am not talking about the morbid slugfest, i'm talking about David Fincher's cutting-edge-music-video inspired visuals in which aside from it the movie tackles our generation's most pressing issues; urban mischief, increasing paranoia, unending search for ones self-worth and identity and the possibilities it'll lead to. These issues were presented through Tyler Durden's (Brad Pitt) ideologies in the form of "Tylerisms". Some of 'em are like a kick in the shin while some have gone overboard. Let's start with... (more)

after catching some Zzzz's this morning (since i was moved back to
graveyard) i turned on the tv to watch the season finale of Friends,
i was about to switch it to the vcr mode when studio 23's reruns of
Dawson's creek caught my attention, i was a big fan when they started
cuz they just utter the best lines (kudos to the scriptwriters). I
just ditched them when they all went to college cuz that was when
everything went haywired and during that time i also started to get a
life :) While i was gazing at Joey (my! really amazed with how foxy
this girl looks now) i was like" why not give these... (more)

i'm not really the type who would line up for a blockbuster movie on
its first day cuz it's not like a play where the actors get tired of
giving the same impressive performance during the opening or worst
the lead will be replaced by a not so famous one on the next days but
i was just busy flipping the buttons of my remote during that day and
we only have 5 channels with crappy shows so it's really not a hard
decision to make. Greenbelt three has spiderman shown in 5 theaters
and yet we din't get lucky, gud thing we got a spot in Glorieta.

Kinda excited with Mr. Raimi's second installment... (more)

Still can't get that over my head, watched it last night and it
gradually made its way to my fave movie list (in the league of the
family man). It's not really some hyped up movie that gives u the rush
and makes you blurt interjections like Whoa! Awesome! or even Wicked!
(spoken in a Ron Weasley-ish manner). It's a kind of movie that grips
you in the eyelids and won't let go 'till you've fallen asleep (hehehe
just checkin if you're still paying attention).

It's a feel good movie, like a prozac that gives u a lingering
serotonin
increase from the time you take off from the movie house... (more)

Just watched passion of the Christ the other night and I was not
disappointed though not really stunned by all the gory images in the
movie since I knew they would be coming and I already psyched up
myself that this movie would be a cringing spree. I was even
thinking how gruesome Mel Gibson could get and indeed it was but not
to the point of doing a second take of the Presbyterian pastor's
experience.

It's better to have a clear understanding on what Mr. Gibson intends
to do on the movie before watching it, since this is not your typical
awe-inspiring film that you see in movie houses or... (more)
